Forecourt Sign Buyer's Guide

Forecourt signs quite simply are large pavement posters displays where you are typically looking at posters that are A0 or larger. The sort of signs that you will see in garage forecourts, retail parks where you have the space to display a large message and a smaller sign might get lost in the clutter. The things to consider when you are buying a forecourt sign include the following.

Portability

Are you going to leave your sign outside at night or will you need to store it somewhere? These are big signs most of them have heavy bases to keep them stable. If portability is important to look for the designs that have wheels or trollies.

Poster Sizes

A0, 30” x 40” 40” x 60” are typical forecourt poster sizes that all printers will be familiar with. All these units allow you to put posters on both sides.

Base Types

Stability is important with these big signs. The more exposed the location the more you have to take this into account. The bigger the poster the heavier the base needs to be. Most of the bases we sell can be filled with water for stability although the defender garage forecourt sign has a simple robust concrete base. Another option for windy locations is a base that spills the wind. This is either a swinging poster section such as the Cyclone or springs like you find on the best selling windjammer waterbase pavement sign.

Displaying Posters

How exposed is the site? Are your posters for short or semi permanent use? How important is the ease of changing posters? Sentinel has a very simple magnetic system which makes changing posters very simple. The Cyclone has a snap shut frame. Both of these have cover sheets that protects you posters. For long term use we advise using PVC printed posters. These are a little more expensive that paper but much totally weather proof and reusable.

What are forecourt signs?

Forecourt signs are large pavement signs used for outdoor advertising. Typically seen outside companies with forecourts and large pavements such as garages, petrol stations, retail outlets, and shopping malls. We have a wide range of styles, most of which are weighted by filling the water base with sand or water.

Are forecourt signs weatherproof?

All the forecourt promotion signs are robust and designed for outdoor use. They have poster covers to protect them from the worst of the rain but in very exposed locations, we suggest ordering our PVC fully weatherproof posters rather than paper.

To get the most out of your forecourt signs, where possible, we would recommend storing your forecourt signs inside overnight.

Are forecourt signs portable?

Some forecourt advertising boards have wheels for improved portability when they are filled with water. Others have trolleys to help move the signs when they need moving or storing.

How do I replace my posters on a forecourt sign?

That depends on the model. The poster forecourt boards come with clear protective poster cover sheets. These are either held in place with a poster snap frame that simply clips open or even easier magnetic covers. Have a look at each product page for details on each method. It takes less than a minute to complete and requires no tools.

Can I use a forecourt sign on public land?

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer since guidelines differ from council to council in the UK. For pavement signs, commonly known as A-boards or sidewalk signs, local authorities aim to balance pedestrian safety with business needs. While there is deemed consent for signs on your own land, like the area in front of a shop or a forecourt, placing an A-board on public highways typically requires permission.

What sort of posters do I need for my forecourt sign?

Forecourt signs have protective poster covers. While they are designed for outdoor use they are not waterproof so in driving rain moisture can get inside the covers. Choose outdoor paper posters or, in exposed locations, you can opt for our PVC posters which are totally waterproof. Outdoor Paper Posters | PVC Posters

What is the largest forecourt sign available?

Our range includes a variety of large forecourt signs up to 60"x40" sizes. You get the visibility benefits of larger displays with the convenience and easy handling of smaller outdoor pavement signs.

Are outdoor forecourt advertising boards double-sided?

Yes, they are. They all take two posters so your advertising message can be seen from both sides.

Are there any design tips for my forecourt posters?

1) Clear Font Choices: Select legible, brand-appropriate fonts, and keep text minimal for easy reading from a distance.

2) Strategic Colour Use: Stick to your brand's colour scheme with high-contrast combinations for visibility.

3) High-Resolution Images: Ensure they're high-quality to avoid blurriness.

4) Brand Consistency: Align the sign’s design with your brand identity and consider its environment to ensure it stands out.
