What are cafe barriers used for?
You might have heard cafe barriers referred to as restaurant barriers or even windbreaks. The most common use of these barriers is to define a space for outdoor eating and drinking outside a cafe or restaurant while providing a cost-effective branding opportunity. They create a separation from pedestrian traffic. The can also be used for exhibition stands and outdoor events to create boundaries for your stand, for creating flexible outdoor queuing systems or just as freestanding banners.
How durable are cafe barriers?
We offer a range of cafe barrier hardware and cafe banner materials, at various price points. The main difference with the hardware is the weight of the base and the durability of the materials. The more costly systems have heavier bases and offer greater stability, making them ideal for high-traffic areas and more adverse weather conditions.
As for the banners themselves, the most popular material is PVC, followed by canvas. PVC is economical, hardwearing, and has an excellent print surface. Canvas has a different feel and look, and it is popular as a bistro barrier. Both options are durable and have UV resistant graphics to keep them looking their best.
Are printed cafe banners double sided?
Depending on the option you choose, our Cafe Banners can be printed single-sided or double-sided. PVC Single-sided banners are white on the reverse with minimal showthrough, whilst some fabric options show a reverse of the graphic on the rear. Checkout the product pages for more information. If the banner can be seen from both sides or you want to maximise all branding opportunities, we recommend going for a double-sided print.

What size are cafe barriers?
Standard widths can vary between suppliers and hardware systems. Across our range, we have 1000mm, 1200mm, 1500mm, 1800mm and 2000mm rail widths. All of these widths refer to the distance between the centre of each post, rather than the rails themselves. Once you have chosen your hardware system it is just a case of working out the number of rails to best fit your space. Rail widths mixed together, and up to 4 rails can join one post to create custom layouts and spaces. Quick tip: the wider the crossbar, the fewer posts you need, saving you money!
How much do cafe barriers cost?
We have 3 different models of barriers, at 3 different price points, to suit all needs. You can choose from our Economy Cafe Barrier, standard cafe barriers, or premium cafe barriers. The cost depends on the quality and weight of the barrier, as well as its features. Consider the exposure of the area where you're going to use them and how busy it is. You can save money by getting wider barriers and fewer posts.
How easy are Cafe Barriers to install?
Our barriers are supplied flat-packed, but assembly is quick and easy. For the posts, you just need to screw on a nut to attach the post and base. The crossbars are ready to go, just simply slip the banners onto the crossbars, clip to the posts and you are ready to go!
Do I need planning permission to use Cafe Barriers?
It is important to check with your local council about their individual planning and legal requirements before setting up a cafe barrier as they can vary. Some rules related to the pandemic to encourage alfresco dining have now been extended, making it quicker and easier to apply for permission.
